Transition Class
WEEK 11, Dec 1-5, 2014
Monday: GMRT testing
Tuesday:
Final Mock Essay Test: use one of the three following prompts:
1. There are special moments in a person's life when they tend to look back to evaluate the things they have seen and done. Some of these landmark times include the day a person moves out of their parents' home, the day of their wedding, the day they have a child of their own, the day they earn a certificate or a significant job promotion.
One day you will be old enough to retire from work. It will be a significant day marking the end of a long era in your life that began with your first job. Imagine yourself sitting under a blue sky in a warm place, contemplating the past. If your life goes the way you hope it does, what things will you be thinking proudly about your work history on that day? Discuss only what you will have accomplished in your work life--providing detail.
2. Each of us owns things, whether we are rich or poor. Each of us values some things that we own over other things we own--for what they do for us, for what they mean to us, for the memories attached to these special belongings. These items might be big, small, costly, inexpensive, or free. Name and describe one or more things you own that are especially valuable or significant to you . Tell about each of these special items, why you value them, and what it would mean if you had to part with each of them.
3. You have won the lottery! It is worth $90,000,000 dollars. What will you do with the rest of your life?
Wednesday:
Write Self Evaluation.
Get class list of names. Come to class on Friday and share one positive thing you noticed about each different person in class.
Thursday: Class final or Transition Essay Test--both hours.
Be sure to leave a current phone number and current email address (365) with the instructor. The email and voice mail must be private--belong to you. She will not leave messages with others about your score.
Friday:
Get final percentage for the course so far.
Celebration of your successes. An unconditional praise exercise.
The instructor will call or email you with the results of your class final or Transition Test. If you have not heard from her by Thursday afternoon, Dec 11, call or email her. She will begin calling on Wednesday evening and/or Thursday morning to give you your score and to verify whether or not you can move to English 90.
