Calendar for WEEK Seven
Monday, Nov 4
Get back all work from last week. See top of "Indian Father's Plea" to determine what you need to work on. Go to www.chompchomp.com/exercises.htm and work on interactive grammar and punctuation for 15 minutes.
Peer Review of Essay 1 First Draft. Read first draft of your essay to a new peer review group. Get feedback on the following
· Does the introduction tell the reader where the essay will take them without giving too much detail?
· Clarity (does it make sense or are there gaps in how the information is presented?)
· Unity (do all the pieces fit together in the best order for the reader/listener?) Does the conclusion repeat ideas without repeating major words? Does it have a strong ending?
· Topics in the essay and then in each paragraph: Is there a clear topic sentence and three meaningful, clear supports in each paragraph?
· Are the ideas repeated too often because the essay lacks enough development of ideas?
Pre-advising: find the classes and schedule you want to have. Get your appointment time. Get Degree Audit information. Determine if you will pass this class or not (get midterm percentages from the instructor) to make a decision about what you can do next quarter. Once you have completed this, you do not need to come to Advising Day on Wednesday as long as there is no other faculty advisor you want to see or need to see.
Tuesday:
Work on your Instructor Interview: Power Point format, further questions if you have not yet interviewed. Move forward on interview even if you have had trouble contacting your instructor.
Revision and Editing: an overview and examples. Revise and edit your essay for Friday, Nov 8—turn in final draft with rubric.
NO CLASS ON WEDNESDAY—Advising Day
Thursday:
New Student Seminar in 22-211 with Education Planners. Go to 22-211 directly. Do not come to the classroom. Be on time.
Friday:
Turn in your essay after reading it to the class. Score yourself on the rubric provided.
