Below are files and videos about taking both essay and multiple choice tests. Also there is information about dealing with test anxiety.

Computerized Placement Test Information--Multiple Choice:
When you take the college CPT test that determines your placement, you are taking an academic standardized test. The following video, about one of these kinds of tests (COMPASS), is helpful because all the information in this Youtube video applies to all these types of tests.
Sample College Placement Test QUESTIONS:
The following link takes you to a site where you can practice the computerized placement test. (At SPSCC we take the Accuplacer test). There are examples of the kinds of questions you will get on the Sentence Skills test, the Reading test, and the Math test--the three tests that students take to determine their placement. Write you answers on a separate sheet of paper, numbering them. Answer keys are given for these tests. SPSCC does not use any of the other tests for which samples are also given, but you can try these tests for practice. (There is an ESL series of tests here, as well.) Since there is no way to actually score these tests as they are used for placement, assume that when there are 20 questions (as for for the Reading test), that each answer is worth 5%. You can then determine an overall percentage of correct repsonses, as if it were an in-class test. Taking these sample tests, you can prepare for the GMRT as well as for the Accuplacer/CPT.

CASAS Testing Practice: Below are two files that you can use to get ready for the CASAS testing. Students must show gains (increased points) on the test over time to continue to stay in the program, so it is worth your time to practice for this online test, given after each 45 hours that you have been in Basic Skills classes-- once each quarter.
